The IC-9700 is an SDR (Software Defined Radio), All Mode transceiver for the VHF (2m) and UHF (70cm and 23cm) bands.
In addition to the traditional SSB, AM, FM, CW and RTTY operating modes, the IC-9700 also incorporates D-STAR (Digital Smart Technology for Amateur Radio), DV (Digital Voice), DD (Digital Data) and satellite modes.
The device uses direct RF sampling technology for the 144MHz and 430MHz frequency bands while for the 1200 MHz band it adopts the IF Down Conversion sampling method.
This technology is a peculiarity of SDR (Software Defined Radio) devices and represents an important change in the world of amateur radio.
It is a technical solution that allows to reduce hardware complexity, significantly improving the signal/noise ratio.

The signals are converted into digital data by the ADC and then processed by the FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array).

The result is a clean, clear signal and excellent audio output.

The device also integrates the Waterfall function which allows you to view the variation in intensity of a signal over time and to detect even the weakest signals.

This feature, in combination with the “Real Time” spectrum analyzer will enhance the performance of the IC-9700 thus increasing the opportunities to make QSOs without missing any signals, including the weakest ones.

The IC-9700 features a large 4.3" TFT color touch screen display for fast, intuitive operation.

The MENU screens allow you to navigate through the various functions and settings with ease and precision.

Quick and intuitive access to Satellite and D-Star functions.

A touch screen keyboard is also available, for entering alphanumeric texts.

In addition, the use of the multifunction knob in combination with the touch screen display further facilitates any search and setting operation.

The IC-9700 can receive two different bands and two different operating modes simultaneously.

For example, it will be possible to receive on the 1200 MHz band in SSB mode while receiving on the 144 MHz band in FM mode.
This feature can be useful and advantageous when participating in contests or searching for particularly weak signals.
Additionally, Full Duplex operation allows you to transmit on the main band while receiving on the sub band.
Other features include the Audio Scope function, which allows you to monitor various audio characteristics, such as the microphone compressor level, filter width, notch filter width, and keying waveform in CW mode.
The received or transmitted audio signals can be displayed on the FFT oscilloscope and oscilloscope.
No less important is the D-STAR Repeater (DR) function, much appreciated by D-STAR enthusiasts.
It can be used simultaneously on both the main and sub bands to listen to two separate DV signals.
Additionally, using DD mode, you can surf the Internet through a repeater station.
The IC-9700 integrates the DV gateway function by which you can set a static IP address for the device.
If you set a global IP address on your router instead, you can use Terminal Mode or Access Point Mode without any additional software applications.
It has 99 satellite memory channels that allow you to store both uplink and downlink frequencies and operating mode.
We also point out the automatic frequency control (AFC) which follows the frequency variation caused by the Doppler effect, thus maintaining a stable reception condition and a micro SD card slot for data storage.
The device uses a newly designed power amplifier and cooling system, which ensure stable and high-efficiency operation even under continuous transmission for a long period of time.
Ergonomic, the IC-9700 has the same size and form factor as the IC-7300.
The button layout and menu screens are also nearly identical to those of the IC-7300.
The combination of the two devices will give rise to an ideal and compact radio station that will allow operation on HF/50/70/144/430/1200 MHz.
